Allergens and safety

Contains: dairy, wheat

  • Packaged labels vary — verify current bun, sausage, and cheese packages before publishing allergen or gluten free tags. Formulations drift.
  • No temperature published for Air Fry step — appliance settings vary. Follow the physical sausage package for definitive heating guidance.

Packaged ingredients change formulas — check the label on what's actually in your kitchen.

No kid variation for this recipe — Ep. 1 is intentionally an adult single serve.
Flavor target

Smoky Cajun andouille bite + creamy Velveeta pull + mustard tang, all inside a soft keto bun. The Velveeta lines the bun BEFORE the hot sausage goes in — the sausage's heat starts the melt without a second cook step.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1
    CUT CHEESE

Cut or fold half a slice of Velveeta into narrow strips. Half a slice keeps the whole dog at 160 cal — resist the full slice.

  2. 2
    LINE BUN

Open the hot dog bun without tearing the hinge. Line the inside with the Velveeta strips so they sit directly under where the sausage lands.

  3. 3
    AIR FRY

Place the fully cooked chicken sausage in the air fryer and run Air Fry mode for 6 minutes, or until hot throughout. Do not invent a temperature — use your air fryer's Air Fry mode, appliance settings vary.

  4. 4
    ASSEMBLE

Place the hot sausage directly into the cheese-lined bun. Its heat begins softening the Velveeta without a second cook step.

  5. 5
    FINISH

Add mustard to taste and serve immediately. The bun stays soft; the cheese melts under the sausage heat.

Three keys to success

  1. 1Use Air Fry mode for 6 minutes. Temperature is not published — your air fryer's Air Fry preset handles it.
  2. 2Half a slice of Velveeta, not a full slice. A full slice pushes the dog past 180 cal and dilutes the sausage flavor.
  3. 3Line the bun BEFORE the sausage goes in. The sausage heat is what starts the melt — reversing the order gives you cold cheese chunks under a hot dog.

Storage and nutrition

Storage: Best assembled and eaten immediately. If prepping components, keep bun, cheese, sausage, and mustard separate.

Reheat: N/A — assemble hot. Follow the sausage package if reheating a stored cooked sausage.

Lasts: Assembled = same-meal only. Components hold per each package's own storage guidance.
