Air Fryer Chicken Thighs + Cheesy Broccoli

This is the recipe that proves 'chicken and broccoli' doesn't have to be sad. Dan-O's Cheesoning on hot broccoli changes everything. Same cook, different plates — kids get comfort, adults get flavor. Two air fryers running at once makes the two-seasoning split trivial — but any air fryer with enough separated capacity works.

Split point

STOP. Chicken and broccoli are done. Plate differently — adults get bold seasoning + extra veg, kids get mild + dinner roll.

50% Adult / 50% Kid

Shared base

Cook once — this part works for everyone.

  1. 1
    DIVIDE + DRY

Pat all 6 thighs completely dry. Divide 4 thighs into the adult bowl and 2 into the kid bowl.

  2. 2
    SEASON SPLIT

Season the 2 kid thighs with Dan-O's Original (mild). Season the 4 adult thighs with Outlaw Blackened Bloody Mary (bold). Light avocado oil spray on both portions, toss.

  3. 3
    REST

Cover both bowls and refrigerate a couple of hours so the seasoning grabs.

  4. 4
    PREP BROCCOLI

Toss 12 oz frozen broccoli with light avocado oil spray + salt. Do NOT thaw. Cheesoning goes on AFTER cooking, not before.

  5. 5
    LOAD BOTH AIR FRYERS

Mild thighs in one basket, blackened thighs in the other (or use one basket with a divider). Broccoli goes in a third basket / vessel. Two-air-fryer setup is the personal favorite here — but any air fryer with enough separated capacity works.

  6. 6
    COOK CHICKEN

375°F, 20 min, flip halfway. Verify 165°F internal on the thickest piece.

  7. 7
    COOK BROCCOLI

400°F, 15 min, shake / toss halfway. Goal: crispy charred edges.

  8. 8
    CHEESONING FINISH

Immediately sprinkle Dan-O's Cheesoning on hot broccoli. Toss while hot — this is the differentiator.

Adult — Bold + High Protein

  1. 9
    SLICE + PLATE

Slice 2 blackened thighs per adult. Add one-quarter of the cheesy broccoli. No bread on the adult plate.

Kid Plate — Comfort + Familiar

  1. 9
    CHOP + PLATE

Chop 1 mild thigh per kid. Add one-quarter of the broccoli and one small roll (or preferred bread).

  2. 10
    SERVE

Two split plates — mild kid + bold adult, both from the same cook.

What makes it different

  • Dan-O's Original + salt (mild)
  • 1 small dinner roll OR preferred bread per kid

If kids don't like thighs, cube the chicken into bite-sized pieces or use Kirkland chicken bites.

Three keys to success

  1. 1Pat chicken DRY before seasoning — moisture kills crispness in the air fryer.
  2. 2Don't overcrowd broccoli — single layer or it steams instead of crisps.
  3. 3Add Cheesoning IMMEDIATELY when broccoli comes out — it needs the heat to stick.

Storage and nutrition

Storage: Store chicken and broccoli separately. Chicken reheats well, broccoli loses some crunch.

Reheat: Air fryer 350°F for 3-4 min to re-crisp. Microwave works for chicken but kills broccoli texture.

Lasts: 3-4 days in fridge.
